Ruth Hatter Obituary
Ruth Evans Hatter, 97, of Amherst (Clifford), died Sunday, Aug. 15, 2010, at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born in Massies Mill on Sept. 18, 1912, she was a daughter of the late Olen Linzy Evans and Mary Jane Snead Evans. She was a member of Central Baptist Church and worked for many years arranging flowers at Piney River Florist. Ruth had a "green thumb" and enjoyed caring for her roses and all her other flowers, as well as her animals. She was a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great grandmother. Her grandchildren were the joy of her life.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joyce Martin Hatter; her first husband, William McNabb; four children, Maggie J. Martin Hogsgon, Joyce Martin Hatter Jr., Kathleen Taylor and Chester McNabb; two sisters; four brothers; and five grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons, Alvin Hatter (Elaine) and Martin Hatter (Betty); one daughter, Shelby Bryant (Earle); and one brother, Linzy Evans, all of Amherst; 19 grandchildren; 40 great-grandchildren; 15 great-great grandchildren; one great-great-great grandchild; and many other loving relatives and friends.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20, 2010, at Byrum-Parr Funeral Home, with the Rev. Eugene Beverly officiating. Interment to be held at a later date.
