Sarah Berta Powell Mayberry

Sarah Berta Powell Mayberry, 88, of Stage Road, Concord, died Thursday, Sept. 2, 2010, at her residence. She was the wife of the late Woodrow Wilson Mayberry. Born Oct. 25, 1921, Sarah was the daughter of the late Martha Edward Roxberry and George Wesley Powell. She was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Sarah is survived by three daughters, Eleanor M. Myers, Martha M. Perry and Gail M. Tice, and her husband, Jay, all of Concord; five grandchildren, Monica Campbell and her husband, Brad, Erica Marks and her husband, James, Christopher Perry, L. H. Grishaw Jr. and his wife, Misty, and Michelle Grishaw; eight great-grandchildren, Eric Bryant, and fianc‚e, Jamie Wall, Sarah Grishaw, Wilson (Will) Grishaw, Kris Campbell, Brandon Holton, Joshua Holton, Haley Grishaw and Aiden Grishaw; a dear friend, Clinton Perry; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Newton Paul Powell and Wesley Mott Powell; sister-in-law, Frances Powell; and two nephews, Wesley Powell and Dickie Powell.

A graveside funeral service was held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 5, 2010, in Concord Cemetery by the Rev. Mark Grooms. The family received friends at her residence on Saturday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Though many years have passed, I often think back to coming with Phillip to visit Aunt Sarah and Uncle Wilson. I am truly sorry for your loss. I will keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
