Sarah Elizabeth Phelps

Sarah Elizabeth Phelps, 95, of Bedford, died Saturday, Oct. 30, 2010, at Carriage Hill Retirement Community, Bedford. She was born Sunday, July 1, 1915, in Mouth of Wilson.

In addition to her parents, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Clyde Phelps, a son, David Owen Phelps, two sisters, Lucille and Delores, and a brother, Franklin.

She is survived by her son, Thomas Phelps, and his wife, Donna, of Huddleston; a daughter-in-law, Brenda Phelps, of Roanoke; five grandchildren, Richard Phelps and his wife, Patty, of Chesterfield, Dave Phelps and his wife, Tiffany, of Fredericksburg, Jimmy Berry, of Concord, Michael Berry and his wife, Lucia, of Muscat, Oman, and Angela Salmon and her husband, Bryan, of Blue Ridge; seven great- grandchildren, a special niece, Patty Fike, of Alexandria, and a sister-in-law, Margaret Nichols, of Vero Beach, Fla.

Sarah was a caring person who enjoyed helping others. She loved playing cards, knitting and crocheting. She was an active member of the Agency on Aging, which gave her an opportunity to keep active and enjoy life.

A graveside service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 2, 2010, at Virginia Memorial Park, with the Rev. James E. Compton officiating.

Those who wish may make a memorial contribution to the Central Virginia Area Agency on Aging, P.O. Box 1390, Lynchburg, VA 24505.
