Venia Shortridge Obituary
Venia Owens Shortridge, 75, of 10318 Colonial Hwy., Evington died Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at Lynchburg General Hospital. She was married to the late Edwin Dewey Shortridge.
She was born December 18, 1934 in Buchanan County, a daughter of the late Clyde Ellis Owens and Maggie I. Owens Owens. She was a member of Bannister Springs Primitive Baptist Church, an employee of Wooldridge Florist and Greenhouse and loved flowers, gardening and most of all, her family.
She is survived by two sons, Michael Shortridge of Rustburg and Ricky Shortridge and his wife Doris of Evington; one daughter, Wilma Phelps and her husband Frankie of Rustburg; three brothers, Ralph Owens and his wife Phyllis, Billy Owens and his wife Donna, and Carl Owens and his wife Kaye, all of Rustburg; two sister-in-laws, Nancy Owens of Evington and Sandra Owens of Lynch Station; four grandchildren, Jason Shortridge and his wife Nichole, Daniel Shortridge and Brooke Shortridge and Lewis Phelps and his wife Jeanine; and four great grandchildren, Isabella and Juliana Phelps and Alyssa and Jordan Shortridge.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Condle Owens; and a daughter-in-law, Brenda Shortridge.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 16, 2010 at Finch & Finch Chapel, Altavista by Elder Troy Simpson with interment to follow in Altavista Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Wednesday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.

If I would choose one flower that reminded me of your mother ,I would choose a rose. When she would look at you and smile..it was like the feeling I get when I look at a beautiful rose, she had the sweetest smile. I am so glad to have had the opportunity to have known her, even if it was for just a short time. May the support of those around you, along with the precious memories that you hold in your heart, ease your grief and give you strength during this difficult time. My prayers are with you.
