WILLIAM HUDSON Obituary



William Raymond Hudson, Sr.

William Raymond Hudson, Sr., 81, of 501 Prospect Road, Hurt died Tuesday, December 7, 2010 at Virginia Baptist Hospital. He was the husband of Geraldine Shelton Hudson.

He was born January 30, 1929 in Altavista the son of the late James Amos Hudson and Bessie Nichols Hudson. He was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church, retired Service Manager for Altavista Motors and a founding member of the Hurt Volunteer Fire Department with over thirty years of service in each organization, and a U. S. Army veteran.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by one son, William Raymond "Ray" Hudson, Jr. of Hurt; one daughter, Joan Hudson Carlson and her husband Paul of Richmond; four grandchildren, Jennifer Matthews and her husband Steven of Disputanta, and Kamden, Will and Kayla Hudson; three great grandchildren, Jacob, Loren and Natalie Matthews; and three sisters, Annie Lee Roark of South Boston, Virginia Lanier of Hurt and Joyce Moore and her husband Clyde of Huddleston.

He was preceded in death by Ruby Grantham and Frances Midkiff, and infant siblings Charlie and Mary Elizabeth.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 11, 2010 at New Prospect Baptist Church by the Rev. Brady Willis with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7-8:30 p.m., Friday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.
