Still think of Joe often. I didn´t know him for long, but in a short time working with him at Randolph, his passion for his work, and helping others, set an example I still follow today. All the best to his family. Joe´s work lives on...

Such a great loss. There are no words. We saw the gift of Christ in Joes smile and in his twinkling eyes. He had only just begun and he brought the grace of God to everyone who knew him . God bless Katie and her children. God bless his family and friends.

I met Joe when we starter the PMLF program at the Diocesan Center in Richmond. I will never forget his generosity and his his smile, how proud he was of his faith, his wife and children. Always saw his messages on Facebook. Saw him last in November when the second group of Deacons were ordained. Was at a retreat this past week-end and met Marcy Catalano. I approached her to sent regards to Joe when she gave me the very sad news of his passing. I could not believe it, but ... God's plans are not ours. I pray for you Katie and for the children that you find comfort in all good memories and his love for all the family. God bless you. Love and prayers, Ana Guerrero

Dear Marge & Tony,
As your old neighbors on Phoenix Dr and for only 6 yrs we always remembered Joe. Even back then we knew he was special. He seemed to know exactly what he wanted in life. Our Mike kept in touch with him through Facebook.
Our hearts go out to all of you. You are in our prayers at this difficult time.

Katie and family:
When I first learned of Joe's passing I cried for your loss and wondered how God could have taken such a young and wonderful man but I realize now that He had a better plan for Joe's eternal life. I had the pleasure of working with Joe at Valtim for 7 years and really missed him when he left but knew that his decision to leave was as hard for him as for us to see him go. May you find comfort knowing that his family was first and foremost in his heart. Cherish the memories and treasure the time that you had with him.

Our prayers are with you, Katie and the children, also your Mom and Dad. I remember you as a child coming to our house the spend the night with April and riding the horse. April lost her Dad too and I know you and the children are hurting. But the Lord will sustain you and dry your tears. Be strong and keep the faith.
All my love,
Amy Peterson

When I went to Joe's facebook page there were no updates. No messages, I thought, well click off. Then somehow my eyes fell on the lower left side, a side of a fb wall I never paid attention to, never really noticed before.
I saw there were just two "notes". Is this a regular feature of fb. I have no idea.
And I clicked on just the first one. A prayer Joe had embraced. That's all I needed. I thought how appropriate. How inspiring for those still here in the physical. How encouraging to those facing perils, to those grieving themselves or perhaps wondering how Joe was in his last earthly moments. Particularly comforting is the prayer's last paragraph:
"I have no idea where I am going. I do not see the road ahead of me. I cannot know for certain where it will end. Nor do I really know myself, and the fact that I think I am following your will does not mean that I am actually doing so.
"But I believe that the desire to please you does in fact please you. And I hope I have that desire in all that I am doing. I hope that I will never do anything apart from that desire.
"Therefore I will trust you always though I may seem to be lost and in the shadow of death. I will not fear, for you are ever with me, and you will never leave me to face my perils alone. ~ Thomas Merton, "Thoughts in Solitude"
