GOMILLION - Burel, 91, of Walton, NY, passed away on June 16, 2013 in Covington, GA. He was born in RidgeSpring, South Carolina November 15, 1921. He grew up in Hempstead and was a graduate of Hempstead High School. Burel served in the United States Navy as a Pharmacist Mate at Montford Point, Camp Johnson, NC. He attended Wilberforce University, Howard University, and Columbia University where he received his degree. He relocated to Walton, New York where he resided for over 40 years. He retired from the United States Postal Service in Oneonta, New York. Hobbies included traveling, playing tennis, and collecting artwork from his grandchildren. He is survived by his children Norina Mosby, Daria Ingram, Tracy Byrd, Burel Gomillion, Naomi Thompson, Milledge Gomillion, and Joy Stephenson; 13 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; three sisters Naomi Marsh, Lorraine Bythewood, Jean Murphy; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral and Buial will take place Friday, June 28, 2013. Service will take place at St. John's Episcopal Church, Huntington, NY at 10 am. Burial will follow at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, NY at 1pm. Arrangements by Wheeler Funeral Home and Crematory, Covington, GA 30016.
