FUNES - Carl, 89, of Rancho Cucamonga, CA died on January 16, 2013. He was born in New York City, raised in Hell's Kitchen, and lived in New York all his life until moving to Rancho Cucamonga last year with his wife Gena. Frank was an entrepreneur, an artist and antique collector and refurbisher, but his proudest achievement was his 31 years of service to his country in the Army Special Forces, where he achieved the rank of Sergeant Major in the Green Berets, and was a jumpmaster, Master Diver, and self-defense instructor. In civilian life he was a Master Rigger and owned his own rigging and commercial diving company whose motto was "No job too high or too deep." Frank is survived by his wife Gena, with whom he recently celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. He is also survived by their 5 children, 11 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents and his brother Rudy. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Wounded Warrior Project in his name.
