George MICHILOFF

MICHILOFF - George, formerly of Massapequa, died peacefully on Dec. 21st surrounded by his family. He was 88. Born on Dec. 9th, 1925 to Pauline and Misha Michiloff, he grew up in Manhattan. George was a WWII veteran having served with the 3rd Infantry Division. He enlisted at the age of 17 and served in Africa, Italy and France. He was awarded 3 Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. After returning from the war, George attended Oswego College and did his graduate work at NYU. He was a beloved teacher and principal in the Copiague School District for 32 years. After retiring, he and his wife Lillian moved to S.C. and they enjoyed many years of traveling with family and good friends. In addition to his loving wife of 58 years, he is survived by his daughters, Lisa (James) Donahue, Barbara Jean (Thomas) Smith, and his grandchildren, Lauren, Thomas, Katelyn and Liam. Viewings will be at Powell Funeral Home, Inc., 67 Broadway (RT. 110), Amitville on Sunday, Dec. 29th from 2-4:30 pm and 7-9:30pm. Interment will take place at 1pm on Monday, December 30th at Calverton National Cemetery.
