Mom & Dad

Mom passed away on November 6, 2013 after a relatively brief illness with cancer. She was born in the Village of Cedarhurst, New York, one of 8 children to Anna and George Bogas. She married Basil B Happer Jr on July 13, 1956, who passed on September 28, 2011. Soon after their marriage Scott Alan was born. He was soon followed by Brad Philip, then Merrill Linn, and finally Adam Mitchell. We then moved to Holbrook, NY onto a small street called Raft Avenue. It didn't take long for Maureen and the Happer's to attract friends on this block. Soon thereafter the memories started for all of us who grew up there. You all know who you are. Maureen was a very giving person. No one can dispute her generosity especially while she was employed at Billy Blakes, where just about everyone on Raft Ave benefited from her employment there. LOL. She soon thereafter started her career as a Beautician in Setauket, NY and in her home where she once again formed many friendships over the years. More commonly known as “Mert”, or “Mo” to family and friends, Maureen was a kind and loving person to anyone who came into her life. In 2000 Maureen and Basil relocated to the warmer climate of Raleigh, NC following Merrill,Tommy and family who made that move in 1992. Soon thereafter in 2004 Adam, Kelly and family followed. Although Maureen and Basil lived in NC, it is Holbrook where their lives were defined and their souls will remain. A piece of Raft avenue died when Dad passed on September 28, 2011 and again when Mom passed on November 6, 2013. They are survived by their 4 children and 13 grandchildren: Scott, and daughter in-law Lori, who reside in Omaha, Nebraska. Grandchildren; Connor and Amanda. Brad, and daughter in-law Kathleen, who reside in Bohemia, NY. Grandchildren; Kathleen, Brad Jr, Steven, Michael and Meghan. Merrill, and son in-law Thomas Smith, who reside in Wake Forest, NC. Grandchildren; Tyler, Travis and Kyle. Adam, and daughter in-law Kelly, who reside in Raleigh, NC. Grandchildren; Ryan, Alex and Addison.
