William McAndrew Obituary

McANDREW-William J. "Bill" of Ridge, New York and Ft. Myers, Florida died peacefully on March 9, 2006 in Ft. Myers. He was 82. Mr. McAndrew had been an Executive Vice-President of Manufacturers Hanover Trust Company (now JPMorganChase Bank, N.A.) until his retirement in 1983. He grew up in the Bronx and graduated with honors from Cathedral Boys High School. He began his career in banking with National City Bank on Wall Street where he met his loving wife Madeline who survives him. They were married in 1946 after Bill had been honorably discharged from service in the Army. While in the Army he served overseas in the Philippines/Luzon campaign. He was awarded the Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, the American Service Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, the Philippines Liberation Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal. Bill then resumed his career with what was then known as Manufacturers Trust Company. He attended the American Institute of Banking in New York City and graduated summa cum laude from the Stonier Institute of Banking at Rutgers University. He assumed increasing responsibilities until reaching the position of Executive Vice-President from which he retired. For several years untiI 1972, he also served as President of the bank's 25th Century Club. Bill and Madeline raised their four children, in Brooklyn, New York. They later, resided in Northport, Rocky Point and finally, Ridge, New York spending the winter months in Florida. While raising his family in Brooklyn, Bill was active in fundraising for Good Shepherd R.C. Church and then St. Columba's R.C. Church. For eighteen years he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the North Shore Beach Property Owner's Association in Rocky Point, and was a member of the VFW Post 6249. Bill was an avid fan of the New York Football Giants and enjoyed golf, tennis, outdoor grilling and fishing. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren whom he loved dearly. In addition to his wife, best friend and constant companion Madeline, he is survived by his four children: Robert W. and Rosemary McAndrew and their children Jennifer, Lisa and Michael of Morristown, New Jersey; Kenneth W. and Emeldine McAndrew and their children Patrick and Ian of Smithtown, New York; Kathleen M. Klotz and her children Ryan, Kerri and Sean of Mississauga, Ontario; and William J. and Karen McAndrew and their' daughter Margaret of Milford, Connecticut. He is also survived by his brothers, Edward (and Agnes) McAndrew of Ft. Myers, Florida and Jack (and Barbara) McAndrew of Goshen, New York and many beloved nieces and nephews. Reposing at O.B. Davis Funeral Homes, 1001 Route 25A, Miller Place, Ll. Visitation Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Mass Wednesday 11 AM at St. Mark's R.C. Church, Shoreham, LI. Interment Calverton National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Hope Hospice, 9470 Health Park Circle, Ft. Myers, Florida 33908.

Bill's journey on earth has ended to commence a life of perpetual rest, peace and joy. We pray for the eternal repose of his soul.
