A wonderful man, a terrific coach and an outstanding athlete. Coach Burden played for Buffalo State and was a teammate of NY Jets standout Jerry Philbin. I was proud to play for Coach Burden in 1967.

Dear Nancy,
While following your talented daughter at the Olympics, I learned about the loss of your partner Dennis. How very sad for you.
I recall many memories of our work together in Syosset's PTAs and your excellent nursing skills at the high school with our dear, (also) departed Diane Waldman.
With sincere sympathy and fond thoughts,
Doris N. Flax

Kyra, I still remember your Dad's reaction the day you were born. Here was this big, macho football guy literally holding his daughter in the palm of his hand, and repeatedly saying (he was good at repeating) "It's a miracle. She's awesome." His love for you was always there. Your dad was a larger than life kind of guy. He sometimes wore himself out filling that role. We all have Dennis stories to tell and to cherish, but the one I remember most was your birth day.

To all of the Burden family and friends, sorry to hear of the loss of Coach. I played football for him at North in the late 70's and had him for health class. He was a good guy and always one of my favorites even when he threatened to kick my butt if I did not let go of his stick during a floor hockey game after school. I last saw him either at a North football game or on the LIRR after a Met game and it was great catching up with him. I could hear the pride he had for Sue with all her accomplishments as well. Again, my condolences.

It is so hard to believe that we will never walk into the Horseshoe or Pennells again and realize that Dennis is in the house.   We will miss his smile, amazing laugh, the jokes he loved to tell us and I will miss the hugs.   We are so grateful for the time we spent with him last Friday night at the Horseshoe.  We were honored and blessed that Dennis was a part of our lives;  he brought light, laughter and happiness to everyone who knew him.  Nancy and family our deepest sympathy; we are grieving with you for the loss of such a special man. Rest in Peace, Dennis...you will be missed.
