Bernard Pittinsky Obituary

PITTINSKY - Bernard "Bernie" "Bo", age 84, of Baldwin, NY on December 26, 2015. Bernie was known and loved for his dedication to the Baldwin, NY community. He was elected to the Baldwin School Board from 1981 through 1993, including five years as board president. In honor of his service, flags at Baldwin School District buildings were flown at half-staff on January 13, 2016. He was a coach and board member of the Baldwin Police Boys Club (now the Police Athletic League) and was active with the South Baldwin Jewish Center and the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of America. Bernie served as the Director of Finance at Yeshiva University for 27 years and was an integral part of reviving the institution from a financial crises in the 1970s and helping a generation of students receive a university and Jewish education. A graduate of Thomas Jefferson High School in Brooklyn, NY and Baruch College CUNY, Bernie was a veteran of the United States Army during the Korean War. Bernard was preceded in death by his brothers Morris and Leonard. Bernard is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years Janet (Serbin) Pittinsky, children Laurence (Jill), Scott, Todd (Vlad) and Matthew (Julie), seven grandchildren, and brother Daniel (Linda). His funeral was held on December 28, 2016 with military honors at Beth David Cemetery, Elmont, NY.
