Cathleen Donaghy Obituary

Donaghy - Cathleen Mary Draser 57, passed away after a long struggle with Breast Cancer on January 9, 2016 in Atlanta, GA. She was born on February 28, 1958 in Queens, NY. In 1985 she married John Donaghy, separating in 2012. Together they raised their two children, Jessica and Jonathan. Cathie was a beautiful, funny, and caring woman. A Registered Nurse, she gave up her career and dedicated her life to raising and home- schooling her children. She had an infectious sense of humor, was a talented artist, and loved playing host, often inviting friends and family over for wonderful home cooked meals. She made friends with everyone she met and was always quick to reach out to people in need. Growing up in Ronkonkoma, NY, she was everyone's friend - voted "Homecoming Queen", "Most Popular", and "Best Athlete" by her Connetquot HS classmates. Cathie is preceded by her Father, Bart "Rudy" Draser, survived by Daughter Jessica Donaghy Matheson, Son Jonathan Donaghy, Mother Mary Draser, Sister, Donna Carinci, Brother, Tom Draser, Grandson, Wylder Matheson, and Uncle Vince Buscemi. A memorial service will be held at Trinity Anglican Church, 2270 Defoor Hills Rd. NW, Atlanta, GA 30318 on Saturday, January 16th at 1:00 PM.

It can be frustrating when some one passes and you want to convey the true measure of your own sense of loss but anything you can imagine sounds like funeral boilerplate.

Sweet, Intelligent, Caring, Funny ABSOLUTELY UNIQUE!

i'm very saddened to learn about our dear classmate Cathy tonight. I searched for her on the internet for years (didn't know her married name) in order to include her in class reunions, chat groups etc. Cathy was the girl every guy fell in love with in school and most girls wanted to be like. She was voted Most Popular, Best Looking, etc. She was quiet with a good sense of humor and was honestly interested in each person. One of the top cheerleaders, always in the top of her class in grades. When i met her after school years later, i was pleasantly surprised to find that she was a real, genuine person - unspoiled by the admiration of fellow students. She spent an hour one afternoon talking to me about all sorts of things when she happened into a store i was working at in the late 70's -- I was impressed how easily we fell into conversation and how varied the subjects. She left an indelible mark on all of our hearts. Many people asked where she was at reunions, etc. Truly an unforgettable beautiful person inside and out. God bless Cathy and her children; may she rest in peace until the circle is rejoined one day. I don't presume to speak for our class but its no stretch to say that many will be saddened to hear this news and that she touched all of our lives.

In memory of my friend Cathie Donaghy. She made me laugh we always had fun when we were together. She always took time for people. She blessed so many people's lives. She give a smile, talk with you, pray with you and encourage others and reached out to those in need. She take homeless people home sometimes or take them to the doctor if they need it and she could help. She would show Jesus with skin on and Be Real with people. She loved her Family and Kids and as a friend she would love on my kids also. My son Joshua would call her Aunt Cathie and draw her pictures and tell her He loved her. She will be missed. She has great children Jess and Jonathan who she is so proud of and the people they have become. As a parent you want the Best for your kids but most of All you care what can of Heart ❤ They have. Her family are people with Big Heart. Her husband John is a person I consider to be my friend also. He always was a strong support to Cathie in those time of sickness and she had many time with her health over the years and I alway saw him as a Rock in those times especially . He let me hang out with Cathie on the weekends and we have girl times and just laugh and watch a movie but mostly talked and enjoyed being friends. Until we meet again someday Cathie for now I say Good bye

So very sorry for your loss, and for the many hardships that Cathie endured (and that you endured with her). We are praying for you all as we gratefully remember the person she was and her intense love for God and his purposes. She leaves a wonderful legacy that lives on in each of you, a precious deposit that is her lasting gift.
