ATHING - Frederick J. of New Bern, NC, formerly of Bay Shore, NY passed away suddenly on Thursday, June 30th at Carolina East Medical Center surrounded by his loving wife and children. He was born July 1, 1928 in Brooklyn, NY and was a graduate of Erasmus Hall High School. He retired from the New York Telephone Company in 1983. He lived in Bay Shore for 33 years before retiring to New Bern, NC. He is survived by his loving wife Carol of 56 years; children Ellen (Ian) Christensen, Kenneth Athing (Beth Nand), Robert (Teresa) Athing, Andrew (Susan) Athing, Christine Briscoe, Carol Hastings; 15 grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. He joins his late grandson Andrew Athing. A memorial service takes place on July 5th at Christ Church, New Bern. Interment will be held in Sayville, NY at a future date.
