I was a Portland, OR transfer to Mr. Gandy's first 6th grade class at Ocean Avenue Elementary in 1965-66. I never forgot (and am always grateful) how Mr. Gandy welcomed me and smoothed the way for this Oregon new student to fit in with his first public class assignment in Northport, NY. New teacher enthusiasm was part of it, but it was more the general fairness, ingrained and natural to a good man and a great teacher!
The bond we established then even carried on to my my 7th grade summer, when I was hired to stack a cord of firewood at his and Lynn's(?) first house at Northport, while they were on vacation...
After many years in high tech and at retirement age, I am a teacher now in part because of Mr. Gandy's engaging and effective teaching style and fairness to give all a chance to share. I'll miss him, and try to carry on the best of what I remember of him... KMM

I didn't have the pleasure of knowing Mr Gandy , but I've heard so many beautiful things about him, especially from his wife Olinda that loved and miss him so much!
I know he was a great man!

I miss him today, four months later, as much as I did the day he passed away! I miss his laughter, his sense of humor, his smile and his love! I also miss that look he would give when he didn't approve of what I just said or did, but at the same time was trying to control his laugh and smile!
I know he is looking down on everyone whose life he touched! It is so nice to read the things people are writing about him!
I MISS YOU DAD!!!

Professor Gandy taught me over 75% of my aviation classes at York College. He was simply the best. Not only was he a phenomenal teacher, but a dear friend and mentor to all of his students. No matter how busy he was, he always made time for us. He will be deeply missed. I wish his family strength and sympathy during this sorrow time.

Reeves was our only male member of our Glow Group... so named because we all went through radiation together. He was such a GENTLEman. I was honored to know him. We swapped stories of our teaching and of our grandparenting. He was so happy with his family. Please accept my deepest and most sincere sympathy. Reeves will be sorely missed.
