SMITH - Willard Fradenburgh, (Bill) 86, passed away from complications of Parkinson's disease on October 31, 2013 at Bassett Medical Center, Cooperstown. Born in Brooklyn NY on March 3, 1927, Bill was the son of the late Robert Leroy Smith and Miriam Fradenburgh Smith. He grew up in West Hempstead NY where he was a chorister in the Garden City Cathedral, an active Boy Scout, and an avid bird watcher. After graduation from Hempstead High School, he attended Cornell University. His college years were interrupted in 1945 by service in the US Navy. Bill and Lucille Holden were married on September 11, 1948, and they just celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. Bill was the owner of R.L. Smith & Son Insurance Agency in West Hempstead/Merrick. He was president of the West Hempstead Lions Club and the Nassau County Independent Insurance Agents Association. He was also the first president of the West Hemptead Friends of the Library. Bill was active in Rotary International for over 60 years as a member of the West Hempstead Club, and recently of the Herkimer Club. Bill was a committed Episcopalian all his life, worshiping at St. James the Just Franklin Square, Christ Church Garden City, and Emmanuel Episcopal Church in Little Falls. As an adult, he worked with the Boy Scouts, sang in church choirs and the Mineola Choral Society, and was very involved with Cornell Lab of Ornithology programs. He loved birding, camping, sailing, traveling, and especially enjoyed family activities. Bill is survived by his wife Lucille; children David Smith and wife Joan, Martha Regelmann, Patricia LaFontaine and husband Dennis, Donald Brightsmith and wife Gabriela; grandchildren Melanie Sandquist and husband Aaron, Keith Willard Regelmann, Michael Smith, Kathryn Smith, Amanda Brightsmith; great-grandson Luke Sandquist; brother Robert L. Smith Jr. and wie Louise; sister Miriam Hardy; cousin Donald Fradenburgh, and several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation to Emmanuel Episcopal Church (588 Albany Street, Ilion NY 13365) or the Cornell Lab of Ornithology (159 Sapsucker Road, Ithaca NY 14850) would be appreciated. Visiting hours will be Friday, November 8, 2013 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Enea Family Funeral Home, 24 W. Monroe Street, Little Falls (315) 823-2424. The Funeral Service will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Albany Street, Little Falls with The Rev. Fr. Steven Scarcia, Rector officiating.
