IMMEL - William Howard, 74, of Sanford NC (formerly of Lake Ronkonkoma, NY) died of lung cancer on October 3, 2012.Beloved father of Bill and Scott, husband to Ann, proud grandfather of Jesse, Will, Charlie and Ella. Devoted brother of Robert and Maureen and loving uncle to Michelle and Jennifer. William Immel was born in a ("cold water flat") in Ridgewood, Queens. Served his country as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division during the "Cold War" 1956-1959. Later he served his community as a NYC fire fighter "Alumni of the Fire Factory", aka "Engine 58" in the Bronx, Chinatown and Queens. Retired from NYFD with 30 years of proud service. Served as a volunteer fireman in Lake Ronkonkoma, NY, training and passing on his life experiences of fighting fires...to all he met. Bill enjoyed time with his loving dog Bianca, camping, canoeing, wood-working, ceramics, painting, coaching football and baseball with his sons. Aswe get into the latter part of our lives our currency changes. It is traded in heartfelt memories of time spent with the ones we love. With that said, Bill Immel left us a wealthy man and all who knew him - our cups runneth over. Donations are being made to the NYC Burn Center and a Honorary Scholarship is being established for William H. Immel at Appalacian State University for the sons and daughters of firefighters.
