Joan BEBRY Obituary

BEBRY - Joan M. (Genovese) of Brookville, N.Y. on March 3, 2014. Beloved wife of the late Joseph Edw Bebry, M.D. Loving mother of J. Scott (Susan), James (Rosemary), Andrew (Susan) and the late Peter (Janet). Loving daughter of Leonard & Lillian Genovese. Cherished grandmother of Lauren, Pamela, Alexandra, James, Julia, Lydia, Joseph, Christopher and Tina. Denise & Maya the best two companions in the world. Her grandfather was Giuseppe Genovese. She passed away peacefully at home with her loving companion, Denise. She was a restauranteur and real estate developer. She owned and managed her real estate in Astoria and Suffolk County, NY. She was the first female to own an Italian restaurant on the East Coast, Vila Ciro, in 1962, Bayville, NY. Her claim to fame was built in 1969, Capriccio Restaurant, Jericho, NY, world renowned, with the late partner, Marcello Fiorentino. It was the first 4-Star rstaurant for 13 years in the USA, food critic, Craig Clayborne. Caracalla with partner Chef owner Vincenzo Della Torre, Syosset, NY. Partners in LaCamelia, Tre Scalini, Rainbow Room, NYC. She was the President and founding member of the Brookville Park Foundation. She was an avid gardener of orchids, African violets and vegetables with hundreds of awards. She was a member of the Syosset Garden Club. Thank you dear ladies for the many wonderful times we had. She was a member of the Matinecock Orchid Society, and she always said, "Thank you Duncan Sterling for my cheap new hobby"! Another love of hers was fishing. Thank you Captain Bob Rochetta for hundreds of stripped bass and for many great years and memories! Tight lines! From Caroline B., "I met Joan more than 20 years ago when she was president of Brookville Park Foundation. She was a real beacon for our Village with her tireless efforts to beautify our community. Not only was she a hard worer, but she was a smart and funny person who always brightened every room she entered. I will miss Joan. She helped to make Brookville a better place. Please keep her in your prayers." Reposing at the Beney Funeral Home of Syosset, 79 Berry Hill Rd. Visiting Thursday 2-4 & 7-9 pm. Funeral Mass Friday 10 am at St. Paul the Apostle RC Church, 2534 Cedar Swamp Rd., Brookville, NY. Interment Holy Rood Cemetery, Westbury, N.Y. In lieu of flowers please make donations to Brookville Park Foundation, Inc., 25 Rolling Drive, Brookville, N. Y. 11545.
