DaVANZO - Honorable John S. on March 21, 2014 at the age of 92. Lifelong resident of Mineola, former Town of North Hempstead Town Clerk and Councilman. Former Mineola Deputy Mayor and Trustee, Navy World War II veteran and survivor of the Normandy Invasion, Ex-Captain and Honorary Chief of the Mineola Fire Department, 67 years of service, member of numerous civic, political and volunteer organizations and recipient of countless awards and commendations for public service. Beloved husband for over 50 years of the late Pauline nee Leach. Loving father of John P. Sr. (Marjorie), Richard W. (Frances), Judith E., Mary E. and Theresa A. DaVanzo. Devoted grandfather and great-grandfather to Sarah, John P. Jr. (Tiffany), Matthew (Dianna), Christine (Jeremy), Brianna, Gavin, Keegan, Peyton, Jane and Liv-Mary. Dear brother of William D'Avanzo, and brother-in-law of Frank Leach. Survived by many loving nieces, nephews,cousins and friends.
