Ken Smith, 74, of Russellville, passed away Thursday, Aug. 1, 2013, in the Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tenn.
He was born May 20, 1939, in Logan County, a son of the late A.C. and Louise Whiting Smith. In addition to his parents, Mr. Smith was preceded in death by his son, Michael L. Smith.
Mr. Smith was a Baptist and served in the National Guards as a Lieutenant Colonel for 35 years and was called to active duty during the Berlin Crisis. He was a member of the Russellville Lions Club and was a Lab Technician with Logan Memorial Hospital for over 38 years. Ken was a public servant serving as Coroner of Logan County, City Councilman and Mayor of Russellville and was an independent businessman.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Aug. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Russellville United Methodist Temple with Dr. Neil Salvaterra, Brother Bobby Forshee and Reverend Wayne Sayre officiating. Burial will follow in the Dripping Spring Cemetery. Visitation will began at the church Friday, Aug. 9 from 12 p.m. until time of service. Young Funeral Home Russellville Chapel is in charge of the arrangements.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Jonnie Evelyn Starks Smith; his sons, Al Smith and wife Noel and Jon Ray Smith and wife Jaime, both of Russellville and Randy Smith of Hendersonville, Tenn.; his daughter, Frances Jane Smith Keyes and Jeff of Bowling Green; his brother, Algie Ray Smith of Russellville; his sisters, Ann Coffman of Russellville and Patty Smith of Bowling Green; 11 grandchildren, and one great-grandchild.
