Charles M. Chayes


Dr. Charles M. Chayes of Panama City, died Thursday August 15, 2013 at Mathison Retirement Center.

Born in New York City, June 5, 1915, he grew up in New Rochelle, NY and graduated from New York University and Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery. He had resided in Florida since 1977, coming from Greenwich, Connecticut via Naples, Florida. Dr. Chayes retired from the faculty of Gulf Coast Community College in 1987.

He practiced dentistry in New York State for thirty years and was a member of the clinical faculty of Columbia University School of Dental and Oral Surgery from 1955 to 1969. He served in the Dental Corps of the Army of the United States during WWII. A Life member of he American Dental Association and component societies, he joined the United States Coast Guard Auxiliary in 1972 in Greenwich and was a member of Florida 16 in Panama City.

Dr. Chayes is survived by his wife, Patricia Howell Chayes, of Panama City; three daughters, Bonnie C. Yousefian and husband, Vreg, of Carlisle, MA; Amie M. Chayes of San Pablo, CA; Barbra D. Clark of Eugene, OR; seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren; he was predeceased by his youngest daughter (Heidi) Frera Chayes.

The Family requests no flowers but asks that donations be made either to the Bay County Public Library or to the Gulf Cost State College Foundation in Dr. Chayes' name.

A private family memorial service will be held at a later date.
