Dr. Frank Richard Lowrey

Dr. Frank Richard Lowrey of Bay Point, Florida, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away on April 5, 2013 at the age of 88.

Dr. Lowrey was born August 28, 1924 in Caribou, Maine, the son of Dr. Nathan S. Lowrey and Alma Higgins Lowrey. He graduated from Caribou High School in 1942 where he participated in the band and orchestra. He also was a member of a popular local swing band playing clarinet, saxophone and ukulele. Dr. Lowrey joined the Army in 1943 and served as Technical Sergeant in the Army Dental Corps attached to the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Forces in England, France and Germany. After the war he performed pre-dental studies at Bowdoin College and then attended the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine from which he graduated Cum Laude in 1951.

He was a member of the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society. After completing an internship at Philadelphia General Hospital, Dr. Lowrey returned to Caribou, Maine and joined his father in practice through which he served the community for 38 years. During his dental career he was honored as a Fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry and served as President of the Aroostook County Dental Society and as a member of the Executive Council of Maine Dental Society. He was appointed by Maine Governor John P. McKernan to the Northeast Regional Board of Dental Examiners on which he served from 1981-1992, including time as Secretary-Treasurer.

He was a 50-year member of Rotary International and was awarded a Paul Harris Fellowship. He was a long-time member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Caribou Maine and served as its President from 1959-60. Dr. Lowrey loved the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling and spending time with his family at his camp on Portage Lake, Maine. In later years, he developed passions for golf and bridge and formed many strong friendships in Maine and Florida.

He was pre-deceased by his father and mother, his brother Peter S. Lowrey and his sister Judith Lowrey Ingram.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Marie (Bee) Jullianelle Lowrey; son Christopher Higgins Lowrey, M.D. and wife Gretchen Ann Rittenhouse and sons William Jullianelle Lowrey and Nathan Rittenhouse Lowrey; and son Nathan Surgisson Lowrey, Ph.D. and wife Tracey Beman Lowrey and daughters Aubrey Elizabeth Lowrey and Morgen Frances Lowrey.

A private service will be held at a future date.
