James C. "Doc" DuPree

February 5, 1922 – October 5, 2013

"Absent from the body and present with the Lord." This event happened to "Doc" DuPree on October 5th, 2013, at 6:38 A.M. at St. Vincent's Hospital in Jacksonville, FL. He is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Mavis Hayes DuPree, two daughters, Patty Petersen and husband Rick Petersen, Phyllis Platte and husband Roger Platte. He had four grandchildren, Roderick Petersen, Kirsten Chaffin, Jameson Platte, and Jennifer Platte. He had seven wonderful great grandchildren.

"Doc" was a 90% disabled veteran of World War II and was one of the few remaining horse soldiers from the 1st Cavalry Division. He loved his horse, Blaze. After his honorable discharge from the military, he attended Embry Riddle School of Electronics in Coral Gables, FL. He then went to work for the State of Florida, Division of Forestry, and completed 41 years of service in that capacity. He and his wife continued to reside in Panama City, FL after his retirement until they moved to Jacksonville in 2012 to be near their daughters and families. "Doc" and Mavis are currently members of Southpoint Baptist Church in Jacksonville.

Funeral services will be held at graveside at Evergreen Memorial Gardens in Panama City, FL, on October 18 at 10 a.m. with interment to follow. After the service the family will hold a reception at 11 a.m. at Victory Baptist Church, 1905 W 11th St. We look forward to seeing our friends and neighbors from the Panama City area.
