Theron "Doc" Burgans

Theron "Doc" Burgans went to be with the Lord in the early morning hours of Wednesday, September 26, 2013.

He passed peacefully in the CVICU at Sacred Heart Bay Medical under the loving and watchful eyes of the many nurses and staff who grew to love him during his lengthy stay. Theron was born in Caryville, Florida on July 2, 1932 to John Burgans and Bessie P. Anderson. He was a member of the Joyful Seekers Sunday School Class at First Baptist Church of Panama City where he proved to be most endearing to the members of the class who were vigilant visitors throughout his illness.

Theron was a proud graduate of the Bay High School Class of 1951. He married the love of his life, Sue McKinney on December 24, 1958 and they shared 54 years together.

He is survived by his two sons, Joey Burgans and his companion, Regina Nauditt; Greg Burgans and his wife, Gena; and one grandson, Alex Burgans who brought him countless hours of happiness and of which he was extremely proud. He has one sister, Jan Phillips of Manchester, Georgia; one brother, Cecil McAllister of Hawthorne, Florida; one aunt, Doris Anderson of Caryville, Florida and numerous nieces and nephews who affectionately referred to him as "Uncle T."

After graduating from high school, Theron served in the Navy from 1951 to 1955 aboard the USS Estes. Upon returning to Panama City, he worked as the Service Manager at Cook Motor Company for 15 years. In his spare time, he was an avid hunter and fisherman. The highlight of many Thanksgiving seasons was the annual men's river trip where his closest friends, sons and grandson enjoyed much camaraderie and fellowship over the years.
