Jack Buchanan Obituary

Dr. Jack S. Buchanan, 83, of Panama City Beach, passed away Friday, April 22, 2011, at a local assisted living center. He was born in Sturgis, Mich., and had lived in Panama City Beach for the past 15 years, retiring here from Gadsden, Ala. Dr. Buchanan was a proud graduate of Auburn University, receiving his "Golden Wings" in 2002. He was a USAF veteran of WWII, serving as a control tower operator. He operated a small animal clinic in West Virginia, and then began his career as a veterinarian for the USDA, retiring after 36 years service. He was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church and NARFE. Dr. Jack never met a stranger, and enjoyed working in his yard. He was an avid Auburn fan, and loved spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Mary Buchanan of Panama City Beach; his children, Becky Moon of Gadsden, AL, Debbie D'Arcangelis (Jim) of Venice, Fla., and Jack Buchanan II (Luz) of Bakersfield, Calif.; his grandchildren, George Allen Moon, II, Bradley Moon, Kyle D'Arcangelis, John D'Arcangelis and Erica Buchanan.

A memorial service will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 26, 2011, at the Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, Panama City Beach, Fla., with the Rev. Robert Lydick officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dr. Jack's name may be made to either Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church or to the American Alzheimer's Association.
