Mr. Gerald Gene Simpson, age 90, of Panama City, Fla., went home to be with the Lord on April 22, 2013.

He was born in Ecru, Mississippi, on July 16, 1922, moved to Memphis, TN. and later became a resident of Panama City for the next 68 years.

Gerald served in the U.S. Army during World War II as a Section Chief of a 16 man mobile heavy artillery maintenance section with the 99th Heavy Ordinance Company assigned to the 3rd Army commanded by Gen. George S. Patton. He was involved in action from Australia, to New Guinea, to the Philippine Islands and Japan. He was awarded several campaign awards with the most notable being the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and One Bronze Star. After the war, he moved to Panama City, worked for Lloyd Motor Company and later became owner and operator of Simpson's Automotive Service.

Gerald was a loyal and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was a talented man who read avidly, enjoyed the outdoors and animals, and had an infectious laugh and sense of humor. He valued education and mentored men both in the Army and in his business. He is well remembered for the stories of his life experiences and affectionately known to his grandchildren as 'Ding-Ding'.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife and sweetheart of 65 years, Seleta Simpson.

He is survived by his three daughters, Beverly Dunaway, Sandra Dresser and husband, Don, and Roseanne Culpepper; two brothers, George Simpson and James Simpson of Memphis, TN; six grandchildren, Paige Strackman and husband Billy; Travis Dunaway and wife Nicole; Tiffany Prior and husband Joe; Matthew Dresser and wife Michelle, Stephanie Nelson and husband Jeremy; Tricia Petty and husband Josh; nine great grandchildren, Chedera, Christopher, Conner, Kristin, Addie, William, Cannon, Jack and Lydia Grace.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, April 26th, 2013, in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating. Military Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6-8pm, Thursday, April 25th, 2013.
