Dr. Holly Ann Hale, 51, daughter of Buddie and Barbara Hale and sister of Karen Hale, passed away from complications of pneumonia, Sunday April 28, 2013, in a local hospital.
Holly was born October 28, 1961 in Ozark, Alabama. She graduated from Bay High School in 1980. She earned a Bachelor's degree in journalism and Ancient History from the University of Alabama, a Master's degree in English Education from Florida State University and went on to earn a Doctorate degree in 19th Century American Literature and Rhetoric Composition from Louisiana State University.
Holly's professional background includes traditional teaching positions at Bay High School, Gulf Coast State College and Louisiana State University. She also taught English as a second language for Kyungpook University of South Korea, Aramco Oil Company of Saudi Arabia, Saudi Arabian Airlines, African American Institute of Angola, Exxon Mobil and Chevron Oil Company.
Holly currently has a work in circulation; "A.S. Byatt's Use of Darkness in creating the Modern Gothic: A study in Medievalism in The Game and in "Morpho Eugenia."
She also owned and operated Mattress America and Mattress Now in partnership with her sister, Karen.
Holly has worked as an avid fundraiser for the Democratic Party. She is also an active member of the Democratic Women's Club and the Democratic Executive Committee of Bay County. Holly was recently appointed by state official Allison Tant to the position of Northwest Florida Panhandle Fundraising Chairperson for the Democratic Party.
Holly was an avid supporter of women's rights. She supported the plight of all minorities, the less fortunate and needy animals.
Since childhood, Holly has collected shells and was a member of the Gulf Coast Shell Club. Holly was a true adventurer at heart, with travels to five continents and thirty-four countries. From 1991-1992, Holly joined the Leon Levi Expedition of Harvard University, excavating a Bronze Age Philistine site in Ashkelon, Israel. Holly is a former board member and Sunday school teacher of the Unity Church and current member of the Unitarian Church.
She is survived by her parents, Buddie and Barbara Hale; sister Karen Hale; her loving dogs Toby and Joey; her cat, Captain Jack, all of Panama City; Billy and Carole Hale of Cumming, Georgia; Harriet and Neil Buerckholtz of Ashville, North Carolina; Patricia and Price Howell of Moundville, Alabama; Margie Skelton of Tuscaloosa, Alabama; and many cousins.
Holly had a special zest for living. She was a bright spot in the life of everyone she met. She would want us all to stay close to everyone she knew and loved.

The family will receive friends at Kent-Forest Lawn Thursday May 2nd from 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 3rd at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Andrew United Methodist Church, 2001 West 11th Street, Panama City, FL 32401.
