Robert Allen Hoxie, 81, of Panama City, passed away on July 28, 2014 after an extended illness.

He was born in North Kingstown, RI on May 19, 1933 to parents Earl and Irene Hoxie.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Doris Hoxie, and their three children: Mark Hoxie (wife Sandy), Scott Hoxie (wife Bonnie), and Julie Hoxie. Surviving grandchildren include Robin Hoxie, Carla Hoxie, Charlotte Hoxie, and great-granddaughter Brittany Stringfellow. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Irene Hoxie and his 11 brothers and sisters.

Robert spent his entire life giving to his family, country, and community. One of his first jobs was working for the Electric Boat division of General Dynamics in Groton, Connecticut, where he helped build the Seawolf and the Nautilus, two of the first nuclear submarines. After this, he served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1962. While being stationed in Panama City in 1960, he met and married his wife, Doris. After being discharged from the Navy, he served for 33 years as a police officer with the Panama City Police Department until his retirement in 1995. He was very active in his community, being a member of many organizations including the American Legion, Fraternal Order of Police, Bay County Stamp Club, International Palm Society, Bay County Historical Society, and the Panama City Gem and Mineral Society. He was a kind and generous man who never met a stranger. He touched the lives of everyone that he met. Robert was a wonderful husband, father, and grandfather and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Visitation will be held on Friday, August 1, 2014 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Wilson Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 10:00 AM in the Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with interment to follow at Greenwood Cemetery. Dr. Morris Denman will be officiating. The family will be receiving guests at the home of Julie Hoxie after the ceremony.
