Mrs. Carol Elaine Barnes of Port St. Joe, Fla., went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Aug. 30, 2008, at her home surrounded by her family.

Elaine was born in Port St. Joe, Fla., on Oct. 24, 1944, to the late M.C. Wood and the late Edna Byrd Wood. Her grandparents were Elton and Elizabeth Wood, local pioneers who settled in the area in 1924.

Elaine is survived by her husband of 46 years, Jerry W. Barnes, son of the late Frank Barnes and Lorell Barnes; two children, Karen McCroan and her husband, Phil, and Keith Barnes and his wife, Lynn; seven grandchildren, Justin McCroan, Jesse McCroan, Haley McCroan, Blake Barnes, Brett Barnes, Shannon Kyser and Krystal Hendricks; and one great-grandchild, Tanner Kyser. She was preceded in death by a sister, Boncile Wood Birgenheier.

Elaine always will be remembered for her radiant, dimpled smile coupled with a gracious heart and loving spirit. Elaine's life was signified by a deep love for her children and grandchildren. The light of her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ touched all who knew her. "By this shall all know that you are my disciples, if you have love one to another." (John 13:3-5)

Elaine's last words to us all were, "I love you."

A celebration of life will be held at 11 a.m. EDT Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Port St. Joe. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. EDT on Tuesday, Sept. 2, 2008, at First Baptist Church in Port St. Joe.

Active pallbearers will be Don Butler, Cecil Lyons, Ray Ramsey, Temple Watson, Jimmy Sims and Ron May. Honorary pallbearers will be Robert Whittle, Tony Barbee, John Presnell and Jimmy Stephens.
