Dorothy Kaeding Obituary

Dorothy Helen Kaeding, 91, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 12, 2011.

Dorothy moved to Panama City in 1953 when her husband was assigned to Tyndall AFB. She had been a resident of Panama City for over 50 years, then moving to Jacksonville, Fla., in 2008. Born in Wisconsin, raised in Chicago, she graduated from The Immaculata High School and the Chicago Business College.

Dorothy was very active in the community. She worked at Gulf Coast Community College, where she retired after 20+ years of service. She served as Executive Secretary to two college presidents, Dr. Richard Morley and Dr. Larry Tyree. She had been a member of various clubs and organizations: charter member of the League of Women Voters, Pilots International, National Secretaries Association, lifetime member of Florida Association of Community Colleges, Panama City Christian Women's Club, Bay Medical Foundation and lifetime member of Gulf Coast Community College Foundation. She belonged to and attended St. Dominic's Catholic Church in Panama City.

Dorothy is survived by two sons, Lawrence "Larry" Kaeding (Barbara) of Jacksonville, Fla., and Gregory "Greg" Kaeding (Kathy) of Panama City; four grandchildren, Angela Kaeding and Matthew Kaeding, both of Jacksonville, Fla., Leigh Eisenhauer (Travis) of Tallahassee, Fla., and Lindsay Portas (Tommy) of Lynn Haven, Fla.; and great-granddaughter Khloe Portas of Lynn Haven, Fla. Her passing came exactly one month prior to her 92nd birthday, which is also the due date of her future great-grandson Tyler Eisenhauer. Dorothy was preceded in death by her loving husband, George A. Kaeding; granddaughter Jennifer Kaeding; and daughter-in-law Teresa Kaeding.

Private graveside services will be held at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home at a later date.

Larry and Greg, You are your families are in my thoughts and prayers. I treasure the time I was privileged to spend working with your mother. She was a consummate professional, and I'll always remember her as both a valued colleague and dear friend. Please accept my sincere sympathies. Larry Tyree
