Mrs. Eddie Lou Batey, 78, born March 27, 1930, in Malone, Fla. to the late Marie Bennett Battles and Alfred Journer went to meet her Lord and Savior on Monday, March 9, 2009.

Eddie Lou was raised by her aunt, the late Luddie Dudley of Panama City. Eddie Lou was united in holy matrimony to the late Frank Batey, Sr. From their unity is Frank Batey, Jr., Kenneth Batey, and Mary (Robert) Merrel.


Eddie Lou leaves behind daughters, Barbara (Fred) Langston, Marilyn (Robert) Patterson, Frances Glover, Shirley Smith, and Glenda Sly, and son, Daniel McCloud, Sr. Destry-Donald McCloud preceded her in death. Eddie Lou leaves three sisters, Audrey Mae Battles, Margaret Battles, and Nora-Jean Roulac. Rosey Bennett preceded her in death. Brothers are Robert Battles, Thedo Battles, and Harry Earl Battles. Three brothers preceded her in death, Willie Lee Battles, Eddie Sam Battles, and Richard Battles. Sister Eddie Lou leaves a sister-in-law, Sally Batey. Brother-in-law Willie J. Batey, Sr. and sister-in-law Carrie Doster preceded her in death. Special friend is Mae Lizzy Harbor. She leaves to cherish thirty-six grandchildren, twenty-seven great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.


Funeral services for Mrs. Batey will be held on Sunday, March 15, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. at Mount Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Jerome Williams, officiating.


Interment will follow in the Hillside Cemetery. Public visitation will begin today from 1-8 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will lie in state one hour prior to funeral service at the church.
