Harris P. "Jack" Byrd, 74, passed away Thursday, Feb. 7, 2008, at his home in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla.

He was born Dec. 13, 1933, in Montgomery, Ala., to Howard and Sarah Ingram Byrd.

Jack received his undergraduate degree at Auburn University and his master's in business administration from Michigan State University. He had a long, successful business career, including executive positions with Heinz Foods, Borden Foods and Flavor House Products of Dothan, Ala. In recent years, he was CEO of ZooWorld Zoological and Botanical Conservatory in Panama City Beach, Fla., CEO of Byrds Riverbend Farms in Montgomery, Ala., and chairman of Courtesy Leasing in Montgomery, Ala.

Jack is survived by his loving wife, Mary; his sons, Jeffery Harris Byrd and wife, Cindy, of Montgomery, Ala., Christopher E. Byrd and wife, Joey, of Huntsville, Ala., and Brian Patrick Byrd of the home; and grandchildren, Carolyn Byrd and Nicholas Wilson Byrd of Montgomery, Ala.

Visitation services will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today, Feb. 10, 2008, at St. Rita's Catholic Church, 135 Moll Drive in Santa Rosa Beach, Fla., 32459.

A funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, 2008, at St. Rita's Catholic Church with Father Tom Collins officiating. Burial will follow in the Gulf Cemetery.

Floral arrangements are being accepted, or donations may be sent to St. Rita's Catholic Church, 135 Moll Drive, Santa Rosa Beach, FL 32459; Auburn University, The College of Human Sciences; or ZooWorld Zoological and Botanical Conservatory, 9008 W. Hwy. 98, Panama City Beach, FL 32407.
