James ("Jim") Alton Boyd, 67, of Panama City, FL, passed away Tuesday, March 5th 2013, at 10:00 pm after a six month battle with pancreatic cancer. The consummate gentleman, he was also a loving husband, father and grandfather who always strived to make the world around him a better place.

Jim was born at Panama City's Lisenby Hospital on October 9, 1945. After graduating from Bay High School, he attended Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh, PA, receiving an undergraduate degree in Printing Management. While attending Carnegie Tech, Jim met his wife – Nancy Gilman Boyd. In addition, Jim was proud member of Sigma Nu Fraternity. After graduating from Carnegie Tech, Jim went on to attend Emory University in Atlanta, GA, earning his MBA.

Upon the completion of his graduate studies, Jim returned to Panama City to raise a family and to work at Boyd Brothers, Inc., a printing company started by his father – Alton B. Boyd – in 1931. Jim began working full time at Boyd Brothers in 1968 and, upon his death, was the Chairman of Board for the local printing company.

During his 45 years of work, Jim made numerous civic contributions to our community including: a member of the Panama City Jaycees (receiving the Ralph Sorrentino Award); an officer of the Bay County Chamber of Commerce; an officer of the Panama City Rotary Club; officer and Drive Chairman of the United Way; Chairman and other position during his 14 years of service on the Bay County Airport Authority Board.

In addition to his civic contributions, Jim pursued numerous personal hobbies including photography, travel and golf. Jim's photographs won local, national and international awards.

Jim was preceded in death by his father – Alton B. Boyd; his mother – Valeria W. Boyd; and his two older sisters – Barbara B. Beasley and Patricia B. Adams. He is survived by his wife of 46 years – Nancy Gilman Boyd; his two children – James Alton Boyd, Jr. (Cille) and Robin Boyd Dove (Reid); and his four grandchildren – Anna Reid Dove, James Halton Dove, Fisher Evelyn Boyd and James Alton Boyd, III.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday March 10, 2013, at Wilson Funeral Home. The Honorary Pallbearers will be: Sue and Rob Blue (family friend); Sue and Jim Campbell (family friend); Nancy and Mack Dove (parents of daughter's husband); Linda and Franklin Harrison (family friend); Kathy and Bruce McDonald (fraternity brother); Deborah and George Murphy (family friend); Mary Anne and Mike Nelson (child-hood friend); Sandy and Ray Nixon (childhood friend); Dee and Ben Redding (parents of son's wife); Carol Ducas & Joe Sapora (childhood friend of wife); and Patty and Lamar Sikes (family friend)

In lieu of flowers, Jim wished that those desiring may make memorial donations to the Juvenile Diabetes Re-search Foundation, 600 Beacon Parkway West, Suite 860, Birmingham, AL 35209 in memory of James A. Boyd.
