James E. "Jim" Thornton, 87, of Panama City, changed his address to Heaven on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at a local hospice.

Jim was a long-time resident of Panama City and an active, faithful member of St. Andrew Baptist Church. He served in the US Army Air Corp during WWII, and retired as a Superintendent with B & H Construction. Jim cared lovingly and tirelessly for his wife, Marge, every day. He also enjoyed gardening, taking care of his lawn, and baking pound cake for Marge's caregivers.

Jim is survived by his wife, Marge Thornton; three children, Danny Thornton, Carol Wellman (Chuck) and Joyce Cartrett (Monty); a brother, Eugene Thornton (Mary); two grandchildren, Reese Heable (Jen) and Jamie Roberts (Charlie); and three great-grandchildren, Tori Fender, Brian Fender and Julianne Fender.

He is also survived by many special sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins; not to mention numerous friends, neighbors in the community, and church family.

Funeral services will take place on Monday, March 11, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Kent Forest Lawn Chapel. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends Sunday, March 10, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Thornton's name to Covenant Hospice.
