Margaret S. Dozier Obituary

Margaret S. Maria Dozier, 95, of Panama City Beach, Fla., passed away, to be with our Lord, at the new Bay Memorial Hospital on the morning of March 13, 2011, with daughter Peggy by her side.
Walter H. Dozier, CWO4 USN Retired, her husband, preceded her in 2002.

She was born in Beckley, W.V., on Nov. 1, 1915, to Luther Spangler and Nan Ethel Jenkins of Middlesboro, Ky. One of 11 children, she is survived by her sister, Georgia Spangler Barton, M.Ed. from Davidson, N.C. and husband, Dr. Richard D. Barton; and her daughters, Professor Emeritus Peggy Willis-Aarnio, Ph.D. of Panama City Beach, Fla., and husband, Paul R. Aarnio, Maj. USAF Ret.; Sheila Willis Kleiman, BFA/IIDA of Concord, Calif., and husband, Maury Kleiman, Ph.D.; stepsons, Ronald Dozier of Mich. and wife, Becky Dozier; Harold Dozier, Jr. of Florida and wife, Abby Dozier; and James Dozier of Kentucky and wife, Vada Dozier; grandson, Jeremy Kleiman of Concord, Calif.; and numerous nieces and nephews including Jane Barton McKenzie, Julie Barton Richardson, Jennifer Barton McClung, Jill Barton Mound, Adam Barton, Sharon Spangler Watt, Susan Wilson Cardwell, Sandra Wilson Bishop, Richard Spangler, Patricia Spangler Otto, J. Lyne Cothran Boyd, Nancy Cothran Starnes, Paul Timothy Cothran; and great nieces and nephews, Jeffery McKenzie, Jami McKenzie Regan, William Clifford Cothran, Nancy Joan Wooten, Paul Christopher Cothran, Michael Sean Cothran, John Robert Cothran; and great great nieces and nephews, Lindsay Pitz Dunn, Meredith Marthers; and great great great nieces and nephews, Ava Regan, Ella Regan, and Zachary Carver.

Gaining an associate degree in business, she was the Business Manager of Middlesboro Hospital, Ky; early in her career but she spent most of her life raising and caring for her children, both supporting and encouraging them to always be kind to others and living their lives to the fullest. Her special talent was music and she enjoyed playing the piano by ear, at one time she played with all of her brothers and sisters in a family band. All had a natural gift for playing musical instruments or singing.

Her special blessing was how kind she was to everyone. Her special friends, who always remembered her were Ruth E. Broome and Mozelle Gordon.

Margaret also loved animals and had many pets during her life including dogs, ""Champ,"" ""Solo"" and ""Prince. She also had a pet turtle of 45 years, who she named ""Mr. T"", who appeared at her front door on the day that the last child moved out of the house, ""Kitty Kat"" who appeared at her door the day her husband died, ""Petipa,"" a black toy poodle, given to her by her daughter when her husband died and her most recent pet, ""Angelo,"" a white toy poodle. She was a champion for the humanitarian care of all animals.

A member of St. Andrews Baptist Church since the family moved from Naples, Italy, in 1958, she was a deep believer in Jesus Christ, which was reflected in her faith and everyday life. She encouraged all of her children to make their career in something that made them happy and not to neglect their own spiritual needs, as well.

The family would like to invite everyone who knew Margaret to the funeral services this Friday, March 18, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home at Harrison Ave and 23rd St. Visitation is from 1 to 2 p.m. and Service is from 2 to 3 p.m., both at the Chapel of Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
