Robert (Bob) E. Sellers, 82, passed away on Oct. 2, 2013, at home in Lynn Haven, Fla., after an extended illness. He was born on May 2, 1931, in Harrisburg, Pa., to H.C.B. Sellers and Alice (Burtnet) Sellers.
Bob grew up in Harrisburg and graduated from Camp Hill High School in 1949. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard aboard the U.S.S. Winnebago from 1951 to 1954. He graduated from the RCA Technical School in N.Y.C. and then joined I.B.M., where he worked in the Federal Systems Division Space Guidance Center. He retired from I.B.M. after 31 years of service.
Robert married Rita Fleming in 1957 in Mechanicsburg, Pa. Their early family life included boating, camping and home-building. Later, they adopted farming as a hobby. Upon retirement from I.B.M., Bob continued the life of a gentleman farmer, raising sheep, goats, cattle and various pets. Bob and Rita were happily married for 56 years, and together they were active in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod.
Robert was preceded in death by his parents, H.C.B. and Alice Sellers.
Robert is survived by his wife, Rita; his son, Scott, and his daughter, Gayle (Phillip) Santiago, all of Lynn Haven, Fla.; his brother, Ronald (Marie) of Port Austin, Mich.; his grandchildren, Christopher, Jordan and Rachel; as well as three great-grandchildren and two nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 9, at Redemption Lutheran Church, 1700 E. 11th St., Panama City, Fla. It will be officiated by the Rev. Wesley Kan. The family will greet friends and relatives at that time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be given to Covenant Hospice, 107 W. 19th St., Panama City, FL 32405 or the Bay County Council on Aging, 1116 Frankford Ave., Panama City, FL 32401.
