Dorothy Anderson Hannon, of Port St. Joe, passed away peacefully in her home on Feb. 19, 2014.
Dorothy was born December 12, 1919 in Apalachicola and after graduating from Chapman High School, moved to Port St. Joe with her parents, Emma and Otto Anderson. Dorothy attended Florida Women's College in Tallahassee and Jones Business College in Jacksonville. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church and a charter member of St. Joseph's Bay Country Club and the ladies golf association. For the last forty years she enjoyed spending her summers at her mountain home in Cashiers, North Carolina. She was a member of the High Hampton Colony Club where she loved golfing and playing bridge with many friends. Dorothy was an avid traveler. She and her husband shared many trips, foreign and domestic during their years together.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Emma and Otto Anderson; her loving husband of 62 years, Frank Hannon; her grandson, Dr. Hannon Smith; her sister, Betty Otto Anderson May; her nephew, Patrick May; and her, son-in-law, Edward Smith.
She is survived by her daughters, Dianne Smith of Winter Haven and Frann Smith (Roy) of Port St. Joe; grandchildren, Ward Smith (Jenny) of Cincinnati, Ohio, Catherine Sanders (Gray) of Tampa, Florida and Andy Smith of Port St. Joe; great grandchildren, Robert and Charlie Smith of Cincinnati and Ward Sanders of Tampa; brother-in-law, David May ( Marjorie); nephews, Bruce May (Joan) of Tallahassee, Andy May (Maritza) of Tampa and Dusty May (Carla) of Port St. Joe and many great-nieces and great nephews.
Dorothy's family is grateful for the loving care provided by her caregivers, Mary Anne Renfroe, Cora Gainer, Becky Hare and Deborah McLeod. A special thanks is directed to Covenant Hospice for their tender support.
The funeral Mass will be at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Port St. Joe on Saturday, Feb. 22 at 1:30 P.M. EST. Entombment will follow at Holly Hill Cemetery, Port St. Joe. Visitation will be at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 P.M. EST. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Covenant Hospice, 107 West 19th Street, Panama City, Florida 32405 or to St. Joseph Catholic Church, P.O. Box 820, Port St. Joe, Florida 32457 in memory of Dorothy Hannon.
