Kathryn Vassie Douglas Smith, 92, of Panama City, slipped into the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at her home.
Kathryn retired from the Non-Appropriated Funds Department as an accountant after 15 years of service. She was also a member of Eastern Star.
Kathryn is preceded in death by two husbands, F.M. Douglas and C.L. Smith; her father, John E. Vassie, Sr.; her mother, Mary Florance Vassie; two sisters, Abby Marie Strickland and Margaret Hall; three brothers, John E. Vassie, Jr., Harry Vassie, and C.C. Vassie, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Mike Douglas (Linda); grandchildren Kathy McMasters (Scotty), Kim Steinkirchner (Michael), Shane Collier (Erin), and Joey Smith; four great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Anita Densmore.
Funeral services will take place Friday, March 14, 2014 at 10 a.m. at Kent Forest Lawn Chapel, with Rev. Harry Johnson officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens, with graveside rites provided by the Eastern Star. The family will receive friends Thursday, March 13, from 6-8 p.m. at Kent Forest Lawn Funeral Home.
