Henrietta Culbertson Elms passed away on June 6, 2014. She was born in Covington, Ky., on March 21, 1921. As a young woman, she worked in the field of banking where she met and married George Elms. They moved to Ft. Lauderdale, where he served as president of Everglades Bank and she was an active member of the Ft. Lauderdale Symphony Society, the Opera Guild, the First Christian Church of Ft. Lauderdale, as well as an avid five-day-a-week golfer.
After the death of her husband, she moved to Panama City, living here for nearly 40 years. During that time she was the manager of As You Like It, Kitchen and Bath Shop and then Kitchen Caboodle. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Panama City.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Culbertson and Nellie McClure Culbertson, her husband, George Elms and her sister, Blanche Kidd.
She is survived by her brother, Parrish Culbertson; her daughter Judy Hughes (Bob); her grandson, Robbie Hughes (Kristy) and their children Savannah, Brady and Dawson; her granddaughter, Dr. Hilary Hughes, and daughter Riley; plus her loved nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Kent Forest Lawn Chapel on Tuesday, June 10, 2014. Visitation will be at 2 p.m. and the service at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Steve Bates officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Holy Nativity Episcopal School, 205 Hamilton Avenue in Panama City.
