William Roddy Hilton, 74, of Georgetown, S.C., passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Covenant Care at Bay Medical Center, Panama City, Fla. Born in Georgetown, S.C., to Spofford and Janie (Hough) Hilton, he lived most of his life in Jacksonville and Panama City, Fla. Roddy was taken from us too soon by cancer.
Roddy was a hard-working, passionate man who enjoyed hanging out in his Man Cave and helping the neighbors or anyone who asked for anything. He was the most reliable man we knew. A US Navy veteran, Roddy worked at Jacksonville Shipyards until their closure and then worked repairing air conditioners. In his spare time, Roddy enjoyed fixing up the yard with beautiful flowers. He also enjoyed walking around the neighborhood talking to his neighbors, drinking beer and watching war movies on TV. Roddy was extremely loving, and adored his best friend and wife of 46 years, Irmgard. He was especially proud of his two daughters, Angela Harris and her husband, Tedd, and Michelle Hilton, and his grandchildren, Chloe, Alex and Taylor Harris and Anastasia Hilton. He is also survived by the Hough family in Georgetown, S.C.
Funeral services will begin at 3 p.m. Friday, June 27, 2014, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Clyde Ellison officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2 p.m. until service time at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Roddy's name may be made to the Wounded Warrior Beach Retreat, PO Box 19555, Panama City Beach, FL 32417 (850-625-0736).
