Jack Leon Howell, Sr., beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Southport on Friday, Aug. 1, 2014. Jack was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Jennings, Fla. He was a WWII Combat Veteran, joining the US Navy when he was 15 years old. Jack served on the USS Moale, DD-693 in the Asiatic Pacific Campaign. He was awarded the Asiatic Campaign, American Defense, American Campaign, National Defense and WWII Victory Medals with five major battle stars. Jack retired as a Lieutentant from the Montgomery, Ala., Police Department. After his law enforcement career, Jack moved to Bay County, Fla., where he owned and operated ABC Printing Company in Lynn Haven for 20 years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Deerpoint Lake, and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, John Lamar Howell and Allie Ruth Wells Howell, a sister, Helen Allie Howell, and three brothers, Lt. Col. William A Howell, Raymond S. Howell and Thomas L. Howell.

Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Dorothy Nelson Howell, and a daughter, Faye Goble, both of Southport; two sons, Jack L. Howell, Jr. (Nancy) and Richard F. Howell, Sr. (Linda), all of Lynn Haven; seven grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; three sisters, Vannie Ruth Howell Bullard and Betty Howell Cooper, both of Wetumpka, Ala., and Sandra Howell Key, of Titus Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014, at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Elder J. C Stanaland officiating. Entombment will follow in Southport Memorial Gardens with military honors offered by the US Navy Honor Guard. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m.
