CMSgt John H. Laughter (USAF, Ret), 81, of Panama City, died peacefully January 8, 2013 at Covenant Hospice with his loving wife of 56 years, Esther M. Laughter, daughter Cheryl E. Duffey, and friends by his side.

John was born March 31, 1931 in Arden, North Carolina to John F. and Fannie Laughter. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force for over 28 years, during the Korean Conflict Era, Vietnam Era, and Peacetime. John was a member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church since moving to Panama City in 1973. He was affectionately known as "Big John" to his friends. John loved all sports, especially football and golf, and was a member of the "Dog Fighters" at Pelican Point Golf Club.
John was preceded in death by his son Steven C. Laughter, his parents, four sisters, and one brother. In addition to his wife, Esther, and daughter, Cheryl, he is survived by his sister Barbara Wagner (Dan) of Boca Raton, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church. A reception will follow.
Esther and Cheryl are extremely appreciative for the love, care, and prayers extended by friends and caregivers. Thank you to Margaret, Jamie, Ollie, Shawn, Patsy, Pam and Dorothy for the love and care you have given to John over the last 11 years. You are our extended family and we love you. Also, thank you to those at Select Specialty Hospital and the Covenant Hospice Care Center, you are special people. In lieu of flowers, Esther and Cheryl request donations to Covenant Hospice in John's name.
