Sonny Shepherd, of Panama City, passed away on Saturday, July 5, 2014, at a local nursing home. A native of Storm King, Ky., Lt. Col Shepherd retired as a fighter pilot after 25 years of service in the United States Air Force. He was one of the founding members of The East Bay Rotary Club. He enjoyed bowling and was Baptist by faith.
Sonny was preceded in death by his parents, John L. and Johnnie Shepherd, and by his brother, Dr. J.L. Shepherd.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Betty Shepherd; three children, Douglas Clay Shepherd, of Virginia Beach, Va., John Arthur Shepherd, of Panama City, Fla., and Lenanna Jo Hatcher (Mark,) of Juliette, Ga.; and four grandchildren, Aaron James Hahn, Kathryn Jean Hahn, William Cummings Shepherd and Davis Clay Shepherd; two nephews, Mark Shepherd (Jennifer) and John Shepherd (Joy); one niece, Tami Campbell (Greg); one sister-in-law, Elsie Shepherd, all of Knoxville, Tenn.
Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, July 9, 2014, at 2 p.m. at Garden of Memories cemetery with the Rev. Virgil Tillman officiating.
