DANVILLE — Charles D. Llewellyn, 90, of 49 Woodbine Lane, formerly of West Pine Street, Coal Township, died Saturday, Feb. 15, 2014, in Grandview Nursing Home, where he was a guest for two years.
He was born in Shamokin, Jan. 3, 1924, a son of the late Clarence and Mary (Long) Llewellyn.
He graduated in 1942 from Coal Township High School.
He was married Sept. 7, 1946, in Grace Lutheran Church, Shamokin, to the former Elaine L. Greager, who died in September 2001.
He was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Chestnut Street, Shamokin, Shamokin Masonic Lodge and Kulpmont American Legion Post 231.
He was a pipefitter by trade who started working right after World War II for Dave Long. He served as a business agent for Local 559 Plumbers and Pipefitters Union of Shamokin and later for Local 520 of Harrisburg for 29 years. Charles also was president and vice president of Local 559 before becoming a business agent.
He was active in the Pennsylvania State Pipe Trades Association as a trustee and vice president and served as president of the Susquehanna Valley Building Trades Council. He was a trustee and vice president of the Pennsylvania State Building Trades Council and served as a board member of the Shamokin Area Industrial Corporation.
He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from March 1943 until November 1945, and participated in battles and campaigns in Normandy, Northern France, the Ardennes and Rhineland, and received the Good Conduct Medal, American Theatre Medal, and the European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbons with four stars.
Survivors include three children, Robert D. Llewellyn and his wife, Judy, of Ringtown; Kathryn Linn and her husband, Robert, of Danville, and Jaymie K. Llewellyn and his wife, Mary, of West Chester; four grandchildren, Jason Llewellyn, of Cumming, Ga., and Rex, Gwen and Anne Llewellyn, all of West Chester, and a sister, Mary Finley, of Delaware.
In addition to his wife of 55 years, Elaine, he was preceded in death by 10 siblings, Clarence, Robert, William, Margaret, Edna, Kathryn, Edith, Mable, Dorothy and Pauline.
LLEWELLYN — Charles D. Llewellyn, 90, of 49 Woodbine Lane, Danville, formerly of West Pine Street, Coal Township. A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday at Farrow Funeral Home, Sixth and Chestnut streets, Shamokin, with the Rev. David Byerly officiating. Burial will be in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Trevorton Road. Viewing will be held from noon to 1 p.m. Tuesday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Charles' memory to Grace Lutheran Church, 10 N. Seventh St., Shamokin 17872.
