MOUNT CARMEL — Stella Kashuba entered peacefully into eternal rest on Easter Sunday, April 20, 2014, at the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community, where she had been a resident for the past two years. She was the wife of the late Dr. Stephen A. Kashuba, a prominent chiropractor well known throughout the Mount Carmel area, and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Florence Berent, formerly of Shamokin. She was a graduate of St. Edward's High School and was married in St. Edward's Church June 6, 1943. Until the time of her husband's death in 2008, she had enjoyed 65 wonderful years of marriage. On Oct. 26, 2013, she celebrated her 92nd birthday. She enjoyed traveling throughout the states and among the islands. She and her husband shared a profound interest in organic farming, which they were able to pursue on their farm in nearby Paxinos. A devoted Catholic all her life, she was a member of Divine Redeemer Church, Mount Carmel, and a former member of Our Mother of Consolation Parish. Surviving are her son, Stephen A. Jr., and his wife, Donna, and three grandchildren, Tara, Kylie and Leah, all of Norman, Okla.; one sister, Elizabeth Strickland, of Scranton, as well as several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Maurer, formerly of Paxinos, Florence Gies, formerly of Clare, Mich., and Marcella "Marcy" Skovrinski, formerly of Brooklyn, N.Y., and a brother, Frank, formerly of Hollywood, Fla. /// KASHUBA — Stella Kashuba, 92, of the Mount Carmel Senior Living Community. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Friday in Divine Redeemer Church, 300 W. Avenue, Mount Carmel, with the Rev. Martin O. Moran III officiating. Burial will be in All Saints Cemetery, Bear Gap. Viewing will be held from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Friday, transferal prayers at 9:15 a.m., in the C.J. Lucas Funeral Home Inc., 27 N. SHAMOKIN — Eugene John Fleming, 90, of 611 E. Independence St., passed away while in the company of family members at 7 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2014, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville. Born March 11, 1924, in Shamokin, he was a son of the late Mary "Mame" (Hanrahan) and Francis "Frank" Michael Fleming. Gene attended St. Edward's School, Shamokin. He served in the U.S. Army as a corporal in World War II from 1943 to 1946. Upon his honorable discharge, he received the European-African-Middle-Eastern Theater Ribbon with one bronze star, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal. On Nov. 27, 1954, at St. Edward's Church, Shamokin, by Msgr. George D. Mulcahy, he married Theresa (Mirack) Fleming, who survives. He was employed as a maintenance worker for Shamokin for 15 years. Eugene was of the Catholic faith and was a parishioner of the former St. Edward's Church and Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township. He was a life member of the Liberty Fire Company, Shamokin, a member of the Shamokin Knights of Columbus, Cardinal Mindszenty Fourth Degree, and a charter member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Emerald Isle Division, Shamokin. Gene was an avid fan of Notre Dame football and the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles. He enjoyed camping and fishing, but his greatest joy in life was his family and spending as much time with them as possible. In addition to Theresa, his loving wife of nearly 60 years, Eugene is survived by a daughter, Ann, wife of Rick Weikel, of Coal Township; three sons, Frank Fleming, of Shamokin, Michael Fleming, of Maple Shade, N.J., and Thomas Fleming and his wife, Tina, of Coal Township; grandchildren Ricky Weikel and his wife, Jennifer, of Easton, Steph Weikel, of Coal Township, Heather Fleming and her fiance, Jeremiah Garancosky, of Coal Township, Michael Fleming, of Maple Shade, N.J., Christine Fleming and her fiance, Jacob Snell, of Wilkes-Barre, and Timothy Fleming, of Maple Shade, N.J.; a sister, Mary Kern, of Paoli; his sisters and brothers-in-law of the Mirack family, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Rose Mary Koppen, and two brothers, Bernard and Thomas Fleming. /// /// FLEMING — Eugene John Fleming, 90, of 611 E. Independence St., Shamokin. At Mr. Fleming's direction, funeral services will be private and held at the convenience of the family. There will not be a viewing or visitation. His interment with full military honors will be in St. Edward's Cemtery, Coal Township. Arrangements have been entrusted to the James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, director, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
