Alvera I. Peronace

SHAMOKIN — Alvera I. Peronace, 89, of 147 S. Pearl St., passed away Sunday, June 8, 2014, at Geisinger-Shamokin Area Community Hospital, Coal Township. She had been admitted to the hospital Saturday evening after being stricken acutely ill while attending her niece's graduation party.

Aunt Vera, as she was known to her family, was born in Shamokin on May 1, 1925, a daughter of the late Dominic and Concetta (Varano) Peronace. She was a lifelong resident of Shamokin.

Aunt Vera worked in the textile mills as a machine operator until her retirement.

She loved being with family, cooking and baking pies.

She was a 1942 graduate of Shamokin High School and was a longtime member of Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin.

Surviving are two sisters and a brother-in-law, Josephine and Larry L. Novack, of Shamokin, and Louise Zaleski, of Dumont, N.J.; several nieces and nephews; her best friend, Marsha.

She was preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Machinski, Catherine Buffett and Rose Quarequio; two nephews, Francis Buffett and Larry E. Novack.

PERONACE — Alvera I. Peronace, 89, of 147 S. Pearl St., Shamokin. A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, with wake service at 6 p.m., at the James Kelley Funeral Home, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday at Mother Cabrini Church, 214 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin. Burial will follow in St. Edward Cemetery, Coal Township. Relatives and friends attending the Mass are asked to meet at the church at 9:45 a.m. The Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, Sunbury, has charge of arrangements.
