PAXINOS — Charles Lee Carpenter, 68, of 3572 Irish Valley Road, passed away in his home at 7:55 a.m. Sunday, June 30, 2013. Because of his acceptance of Jesus as his savior, he is in the presence of Almighty God.
"I am the way and the truth and the life, no one shall come to the Father except through me," is what Charlie believed in.
He was born in Shamokin, July 16, 1944, a son of the late Earl and Edna Mae (Lehman) Carpenter.
Charles graduated from Shamokin High School in 1962. (Go Greyhounds!)
He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War
and was later employed as a facilities management specialist for the Army.
He was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church where he served as treasurer for many years.
He was a life member of Rescue Fire Co., having served on the Board of Trustees, and served a two-year term as fire chief for Shamokin in 1993-94. His last public service was serving as president of the Shamokin Area School Board.
On June 10, 1967, in Shamokin, Charlie married the love of his life, the former Barbara Yucha, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Barbara, at home, he is survived by two sons, Steven C. Carpenter and his wife, Jennifer, of Sunbury, and Christopher L. Carpenter and his wife, Janet, of Coal Township; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Samantha, Steven, Faith, Grace, Bradley and Jacob, and three sisters, Barbara Bidelspach and her husband, Robert, of Sunbury, Bonnie Alleman and her husband, Roger, of Shamokin, and Mary Wallish Long and her husband, Russell, of Trevorton.
CARPENTER — Charles Lee Carpenter, 68, of 3572 Irish Valley Road, Paxinos. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, July 8, at St. John's United Methodist Church, Coal Township, with the Rev. Karyn Fisher presiding. Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington. Friends and relatives can visit the family from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the church. Donations may be made to St. John's United Methodist Church, 1211 W. Arch St., Coal Township 17866. Farrow Funeral Directors, Shamokin, has charge of arrangements.
