SHAMOKIN — Dawn Helen Karpiak, 86, of 170 E. Dewart St., passed away at 3:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 17, 2014, at Mountain View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born April 6, 1927, in Shamokin, she was a daughter of the late George and Hazel (Strauser) Lees.
She was a 1945 graduate of Shamokin High School.
On Aug. 16, 1976, she married Henri Karpiak, who preceded her in death in 2002.
She worked as a presser for the Shroyer Dress Company from 1946 to 1976.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Shamokin.
Surviving are a granddaughter, Mrs. Angie Lubnow and her husband, Matthew, of Arken, S.C.; a great-granddaughter, Elizabeth Lubnow; three sisters, Cora Baily, Jane Williams and Nancy Bamford, all of Shamokin; a brother, Thomas Lees, of Lansdale, and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, George Lees and Jack (Monroe) Zogie Lees, and two sisters, Elnore Fleischauer and Carolyn Ring.
KARPIAK — Dawn Helen Karpiak, 86, of 170 E. Dewart St., Shamokin. Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at All Saints Cemetery, Elysburg with the Rev. Zachary Hopple officiating. There will be no hours of calling. The Farrow Funeral Directors, Sixth and Chestnut Streets, Shamokin, is in charge of the arrangements. Memorial contributions can be made to the First United Methodist Church, 102 E. Sunbury St., Shamokin, or to the donor's favorite charity.
