COAL TOWNSHIP — Donald L. "Dude" Shuey, 91, of 1724 W. Mulberry St., passed away at 4:55 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, while in the company of family members at his residence.
Dude, as he was known, was born in Coal Township, May 22, 1922, a son of the late M. Manilla (Long) and Dennis E. Shuey.
He attended Coal Township schools and earned a GED.
He served in the U.S. Marines as a staff sergeant in World War II
, participating in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and in operations in Luzon and the Southern Philippines. Upon being honorably discharged, he was awarded the Good Conduct Medal.
In September 1948, he married Shirley (Snyder) Shuey, who preceded him in death in 1990.
Dude worked as a parachute packer at Olmstead Air Force Base, now known as Harrisburg International Airport in Middletown. Having worked at several jobs, he retired from Kennedy Van Saun in Danville.
A parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Church, Coal Township, Shuey was a life member of Fairview Fire Company and several other clubs including his most favorite, the Lithuanian Club, Shamokin Moose and St. Francis Home Association, where he enjoyed socializing and dancing with his many friends.
Donald is survived by a son, Don Shuey and his wife, Tanka, of Coal Township; a daughter, Susan Shuey, of Coal Township; a brother, Tom Shuey and his wife, Marge, of Jackson, N.J.; his wife's sister, Lucille Doney, of Odenton, Md., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dude was preceded in death by two brothers and sisters-in-law, William and Ruth "Toots" Shuey, formerly of Coal Township, and Richard and Joan Shuey and their son, Rick, formerly of New Jersey.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, director, 1001 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
